Landscaping for Snoqualmie Ridge and Valley Homes

Snoqualmie is really two kinds of yards. Up on Snoqualmie Ridge, it's a master-planned community with tight lots and shared slopes. Down in the valley and around the historic downtown, it's older homes on flat ground close to the Snoqualmie River. Each one needs a different plan, and we build for both.

Landwork Enterprises is based just up the road in North Bend. We build drainage, full yard renovations, patios, retaining walls, irrigation and lighting for Snoqualmie homeowners, and the same team handles your project from design to finish.

    Building on Snoqualmie Ridge

Most Ridge homes have association design rules for outside changes, so check yours early.

Ridge lots bring their own challenges:

    • Tight access. Narrow side yards and close neighbors mean planning how materials and equipment get to the backyard.
    • Slopes and shared drainage. Many backyards step down toward greenbelts, wetlands or the neighbor below, and water from uphill lots ends up in yours.
    • Builder-grade yards. New-construction yards often come with thin topsoil over compacted ground, a basic lawn and a small patio. After a few wet winters, the lawn is soggy and the patio has settled.

Closer to the river, the problem is usually the opposite of a slope: flat ground with nowhere for water to go. Parts of Snoqualmie sit in the Snoqualmie River floodplain, and groundwater can stay high through the rainy season. Yards here need careful grading and a realistic plan for where water can safely go.

    Drainage first

Whether it's a Ridge backyard that collects water from three neighbors or a flat lot near downtown, we start with the water. We find where it's coming from and build a drainage fix that works through a full wet season, using French drains, catch basins, subsurface drains and regrading.

    Full yard renovation

A full yard renovation is how many Ridge owners finally replace the builder-grade yard. We take out what isn't working, grade and prep the site, fix the drainage, and build a yard planned as one piece.

    Paver patios and hardscape

On a small Ridge lot, a well-built patio can double the space you actually use. We build paver patios, walkways and steps on a compacted, drained base, so they stay level through freeze-thaw winters.

    Block and boulder retaining walls

Plenty of Ridge backyards slope enough that a terrace or two would turn them into flat, usable space. We build block and boulder retaining walls with drainage behind every wall, so water doesn't build up and push it out of line. Block walls give clean, even terraces that fit the Ridge's look, and boulders work well at the edge of a greenbelt.

    Irrigation installation

New lawns and beds on the Ridge often sit on fast-drying slopes that need steady water in summer. We design and install irrigation as part of the landscape we build, zoned for slopes, sun and shade. We focus on new installs and upgrades, not small service calls.

    Landscape lighting

Landscape lighting makes steps, paths and patios safe after dark and shows off new walls and plantings. We plan it with the landscape, so the wiring goes in before the finished surfaces.

    Synthetic turf

For small, shady backyards where grass turns to mud, synthetic turf over a drained base can give kids and dogs a clean place to play year-round.

    Snoqualmie Landscaping FAQ

When should I start planning a Snoqualmie Ridge project?

Any time. We work year-round, through winter. Drainage is often best diagnosed and done in the wet season, when the problems show up, while some paver work waits for a dry spell.
